Hurricane Matthew
Hurricane Matthew is going through the Bahamas and the dangerous winds have picked up speed as the storm travels north. The forecasters say the storm has already killed about 113 people in three Caribbean countries. Most of them, 108 people, died in Haiti. The hurricane is a category 4 storm with winds of 140 mph. Florida's Mayor had told CNN that he feared residents might be surprised about it all because a hurricane hasn't hit in four decades.
Authorities encouraged about 2 million people to leave their homes in Georgia, South Carolina, and coastal Florida. They said the winds have decreased about 13% which is a good thing. The Hurricanes winds is expected to extend 60 miles from the eye. They wanted everyone to evacuate because that hurricane can kill you. It is way too serious for people to not take serious, especially in the places it's supposed to hit. Flooding is possible in Florida. Lots of people were also out of power. Officials say that no one should go outside. Obama states that they won't know how much destruction the storm caused until a few days.
The direct hit by hurricane Matthew could lead to a massive destruction like one that was experienced in 1992 by hurricane Andrew. Orange County and Volusia County were given curfews on Thursday night. Flights were canceled at Florida airports. The governor of North Carolina declared a state of emergency. South Carolina's governor says that the 310,000 people that have been evacuated was not enough. Officials have went door to door in some places trying to get people to leave.
