Ramadan is coming!
Ramadan concludes with a 3-day festival known as “Eid” or “Eid ul-Fitr,” which literally means “the feast of the breaking/to break the fast.” The holiday marks the end of Ramadan.
Ever heard of Ramadan? Well first let me explain what the excitement is. Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims. The month where we fast for an entire month. Fasting is when you’re abstained from all sorts of food and drinks. We are only allowed to eat when the sun is down. When sunset comes, we stop eating and wait till the sun gets back down. The purpose is to get closer to god, and while were fasting, we read Quran more and pray more. Ramadan is also the time Muslims from all around the world to get together.
Many Muslims enjoy this holiday because it’s the time they eat the best. Families gets together and make the best food dish. You eat the best when you’re breaking your fast because that’s when you start appreciating everything more. Every year, Ramadan is once a year. This year (2018) it starts May 15 – June 14. We depend on the lunar cycle on when Ramadan starts and ends. Meaning that when there is a new moon, that’s when we start and with end with the next new moon. No one is forced to do this but children normally don’t do this because they are too young to learn and also people who are ill are excused because they need to take medication and can not go a long time without eating and also women who are pregnant because they need to feed their babies.
Ramadan is also a month of forgiving, apologizing and also helping the needy. Many Muslims make food and go out to pass out food for those who are in need and hungry. We do as much we can so that god can forgive us for our wrongdoings in the past. Islam means peace, we want no violence or any sort of fighting or hurting anyone. We take this serious because this is the month when our holy book was revealed – The Quran. In Islam, Muslims follows the Quran.
