Walking into A New World

On the first day of school, some people walked into a new world. Every school has a different atmosphere and is unique. Starting at a new school feels like moving to a different country- in a way. New students have to learn where everything is, figure out what ‘group’ they fit into, and try to start over socially. New teachers face a lot of the same stresses as new students, but they can’t show it.

Eastern Guilford has a few new teachers this year, one of the new teachers at EGHS is Mr.Cannuli. Cannuli teaches English I and English IV. In his English four class he starts the period with journal questions that are personal, so he can get to know his students. His first assignment for his English four class was to write a personal narrative. Along with an interest to get to know the students he is teaching, he seems interested in every student he comes in contact with. Cannuli was very talkative with students in his homeroom the first week of school. It can be inferred that Cannuli wants to get beyond teaching and have an impact in teenagers life.

Cannuli incorporates life lessons and advice, into his class periods. He discusses the journal questions, he gives his English IV class. The Journal question he gave yesterday was about regrets. Cannuli stated, “You are seniors, so if you are still making the same mistakes, you might want to reevaluate.” Today after reading an article about President Trump, Cannuli discussed the importance of voting with his English IV class. Cannuli doesn’t just teach what is required but shares advice students can apply to their life's outside of school.

Cannuli taught at Rockingham High, and Eastern Guilford has a very different atmosphere. Eastern Guilford has a very diverse student population compared to a lot of different schools. Cannuli made it through his first week in a different world- aka school.
