Behind the scenes of EG Volleyball
The volleyball team is taking every team head on this season. They might not win every game but they play as a family and not just as a team.
I spoke with one player on JV (junior varsity) and one player on varsity to get to know how they feel about and season and how everything is going in their eyes. The first person I talked to was Layla Petty, a player on varsity.
Paw Print: How do you like the season so far?
Layla Petty: “I feel like we been playing great but some of the decisions the coaches been making are kinda odd.”
What are some things you would like to improve in?
“I would like to improve on my passing in the back row, serve receive”.
How did you get started playing volleyball?
“Well when I was going to 7th grade my sister tried out so I was like maybe I should try out so I did and I made it”.
How is this season different than past school seasons? Better or Worst? Why?
“Some ways its better and some ways its worst. I feel like its worst because I'm not able to play some games. Its better in away because we have a really good team with lots of talent”.
What advice would you like to say to freshman volleyball players?
“I would give the freshman advice to keep working hard even when you mess up don’t dig yourself in a hole, continue to play and even if your not the best on the team its always room for improvement”.
After that great interview with Layla Petty, I had a talk with Taylen Cheeley, a player on JV (junior varsity) to get her opinion on things.
Paw Print: How is your high school season different from middle school season?
Taylen Cheeley:“Its like more intense and more playing time, and a much better coach”
What do you want to improve in?
“I would like to improve in serving”
How is the coach different in high school from middle school?
“It was the middle school coaches first time ever coaching, she didn’t know what she was doing and high school coaches are more experienced”.
Do you want to play in college? If so why? If not, why not?
“Yes, I want to play in college because volleyball keeps me focus and busy”
Dis you like middle school? If so how is it different from high school?
“I liked middle school teachers but not middle school as a whole because there was no freedom and they were very strict. High school gives way more freedom”.
