What’s up with this new security system for the school?

As some of you may have noticed, there is a new security system in place, but some of you may not have seen it yet.

Well for the ones who haven’t seen or even heard about it, let me fill you in on what I’m talking about.

Guilford County Schools has come up with a new way of protecting our schools. When you walk to the front of the school and stand right outside of the doors, there is this silver box that is on the wall to the right. And how it works, is when the tardy bell rings in the morning all the doors lock (including the student entrance door).

If you arrive late, you will have to ring the little buzzer and someone in the front office will have to mash a button to ask what you need and why you’re here then they will unlock the door. As for student drivers, there’s no more coming in late and just walking in by Coach Hackett’s office.

You must walk around the school and go in through the main entrance as well. Although that seems ridiculous, it’s for the greater cause. It’s all about the safety of our students and staff. But like everything in life, this new system has some pros and cons.

A couple of the pros that go along with it are we keep the number of visitors in the building down, and like I said before it keeps the school safer. But the cons that go with it is the fact that it gives the office staff yet another job, and they already do so much as it is. And also the inconvenience it causes for student drivers is definitely a con, because if you park in the student parking lot on the side that is closest to the vocational building then that’s going to be a pretty long walk and if you’re already late as it is, walking that distance will just cause you to be even later than when you started.
