W.I.L.D.C.A.T CRAZIESSSS!!

SMELLS LIKE SCHOOL SPIRIT!

LET’S GO WILDCATS, LETS GO!

What do student athletes and coaches desire more of? What do teachers and administrators demand more of? School spirit answers both questions. It's time to scream and shout because I sense something real crazy in the air! Do you have spirit? Do you have the chanting voice to be a wildcat crazy? Well the price is right. Membership is as low as $10, which includes a t-shirt and travels to designated home and playoff games (go to Mr. Jones classroom 265 on the math hallway for more information).

Catch the Spirit

For starters, having to go to school 35 hours of the week is not fun. Plus, for those of us whom have a job working when we have to, that’s not fun either. So, you figure 35 hours at school plus a part-time job and you sleep. That hardly leaves any time for us to relax. That's not even because most of our teachers give homework. The first couple of weeks, we're happy to be in school and we have school spirit then it slowly diminishes until the end of the year because we're getting burnt out. But don't give up on the turn up yet we’re just starting! H-O-M-E-C-O-M-I-N-G... ITS HOMECOMING YALL! SAY WHAT? ITS HOMECOMING YALL! Did I forget to mention that homecoming is right around the corner? No worries, the crazies are piping it up and we are coming as crazy as ever. But homecoming isn’t the only thing we’re chanting.

Spirit days are most popular during high school homecoming week. Different themes designated throughout the week invite students to dress in costumes or school colors to show their school spirit.

Do you have school spirit?

School Spirit

What defines one as having "school spirit?" Some might say it's participating in the numerous extracurricular activities while in high school. Others may say it's all about showing up and supporting your team at every sporting event, or even just participating in spirit week. Whatever it may be, some students never show any school spirit or interest in supporting their school. School spirit allows all students to stay involved with their high school. Even if they do not participate in any sports or clubs themselves, students can always provide encouragement to their classmates and cheer them on. School spirit is what drives people to put their school name up in lights and advertise their school as though they are bragging.

However, some students are simply stubborn. School spirit is a lot like faith, you either have it or you don't.

School spirit differs from place to place because of the students. School spirit must come from the heart, and if the heart isn't there, neither is the school spirit. When you go from school to school or even year-to-year, you can usually see an obvious difference between them.

I surveyed students on whether their involved or would like to be involved and participate as a wildcat crazy as an influence, and I ran into a wildcat crazy --

Paw Print: Why do you like to get involved? Why should students get more involved?

Crazy: I like to get involved because I like to support my school and engage in fun activities to increase school spirit. Others should join because it's fun and doing something productive is better than just walking around with your friends during the game. I mean what fun do you get out of that? Getting more involved helps academically and it’s an extra craziness in the stands shouting.

Since this is your last year, as being a crazy throughout the years would you recommend underclassmen to get more involved?

Definitely! Most freshmen and sophomores still have that middle school mentality, whereas being hype is what they do best. So they should just use that energy for good and make it useful.

Why do you think it’s important for the school to have school spirit? What are some ways that could get the school more involved? Do you think staff members should get involved as well?

I mean seriously, no one wants to spend a school year in a dead school. The more you like the school the more you encourage yourself to work. We wake up and come to school everyday for 7 hours and half the time I see mean mug faces and not enough smiles. The only time I really see school spirit is for spirit week, but what about games or club competitions? Staff members should already be involved, after all, they do work here. But in my opinion, staff takes favor on football because the better they are the more people that come to the game. So, the more people the better the spirit.

How do you feel about school spirit?

I don’t necessarily have any feelings towards it but the fact that more people need more of it. I’m proud to be a Wildcat, therefore I’m involved as a wildcat crazy.

Before we end, do you have anything you want to say in regards to your experience as being a crazy?

Being a crazy actually changed my high school perspective. The members of the team became family and when we’re together it's nothing but good vibes and positivity. As brothers and sisters, we’re a whole and our destiny is to be crazy together and make our school proud.

Did You Know…

That high school students with “school spirit” perform better academically, are more engaged socially, and are happier in general than their less-spirited peers.
