Valentine's Day around the world
What is Valentine’s day? A day when it is traditional to send a card, often anonymously, to a person one is romantically involved with or attracted to. What I know about Valentine’s day is that it’s a loving holiday on February 14th when couples and friends around the world give out bears, candy, and love cards. I've never celebrated Valentines with a mate but I have with friends. I always wondered how having a mate on valentines feels like around the globe. So, I decided to do research online of different countries of what they are going to do on February 14th.
• Japan- In Japan, females usually make the holiday special to the men by giving them gifts. Giving out chocolates is very special but the main to chocolates they give out are called giri-choco and obligation.
• South Korea-They celebrate Valentine's from February to April!
• South Africa- South Africans pin a name of their crush name on their shoulder to let them know that they like that person or interested in that person
• Brazil- They celebrate Valentine's Day on June 12 and they call it Saint Anthony's day. Saint Anthony is recognized for blessing young couples with happy and prosperous marriages
• Finland- Valentine's Day is more like a friendship day for them. They usually send out love letters to their friends telling them how much they love and appreciate them.
• Wales- The Welsh make something called a "love spoon" for Valentine's and they celebrate this day on January 25th. The Welsh curve out a wooden spoon and exchange it to say they love you.
• Philippines- In this largely Roman Catholic country, Valentine’s Day is spent with wives and husbands. But its eve and aftermath are reserved for lovers.
• Ghana- This day is a national chocolate day in attempt to boost tourism to one of the worlds largest cocoa producing counties.
• Valencia Spain- Their Valentines times day is celebrated on October 9th. they set up big festive and parades Doing my research on different counties has been a learning experience for me because I never knew some countries celebrate Valentine's on different days and give different gifts besides candy, bears, and cards.
I never thought to step out the box and to think other people do different things around the world. This is a loving day for couples, friends, crushes, and family around the world.
