‘Leaving Neverland’ Sparks Controversy
There have been many opinions surrounded by this notorious rumor about the famous pop star icon, Michael Jackson. Leaving Neverland is a documentary centered around the alleged accounts molestation of 2 men when they were children by Michael Jackson. The documentary follows James Safechuck and Wade Robson accusations of sexual abuse from Jackson since the late 80s to early 90s. the film is 4 hours long and the men are in their late 30s to early 40s.
The Jackson family was outraged. They describe the documentary as “public lynching” and the men as “admitted liars”. The family calls them this because the accusers have made sworn statements while Jackson was alive that he did not molest them. With this documentary, there are two opposing sides. There are viewers who believe that it had very little, if any, evidence to say that the claims were real. Other viewers believe the accusations and display on the media that they are disgusted by Jackson’s alleged actions.
The singer’s nephew took to twitter responding to someone saying how could he have known what Jackson did and said: "I've been around my uncle only thousands and thousands of hours. And since my uncle is not here to defend himself, the credibility of the accusers’ matter. And Wade and James have none." Also, Corey Feldman, who knew Jackson as a child, stood by the late singer’s side and voiced his opinion tweeting: "Never once swore in my presence, never touched me inappropriately, & never ever suggested we should be lovers in any way! I feel like if people could hear our convos they would hear the innocence in them. No hint of perversion."
Not all have come to that conclusion. Director Michael J. Freeman has taken the alleged victim’s side and tweeted: “They were innocent little kids. They knew no better. This man must be removed from any/all pedestals and put in his proper place in history: a megastar who abused his power to molest little boys. Unforgivable.” Some have started to boycott the late singer’s music as well. “Will never listen to a Michael Jackson song again. This documentary is shockingly, sickeningly believable. Totally disgusting,” said sportswriter, Jason La Canfora, on twitter. Many were disgusted by the film and could barely sit through it. "#Leaving Neverland has officially turned my antipathy to Michael Jackson into actual nausea. What a grotesque creep," Director Ben Rock tweeted. Sexual Activist, Blair Imani, weighed in on the conversation and tweeted: I won’t be watching the film, because it’s absolutely way too triggering for me. I hope that if it’s too troubling to watch for you, you also take a break. No need to re-traumatize yourself.”
Obliviously there are extremely different views on this situation. There are conflicting stories and theories about the story. Do you think Michael Jackson is guilty? Are the men telling truth? Should the documentary have took a different turn since Michael isn’t alive to defend himself? If only those walls in that mansion could talk…
